Every year, World Environment Day reminds us of the importance of taking action, each of us, in our own way. Here are 6 simple and accessible actions to help reduce your impact on the planet.

June 5th is World Environment Day
What if this year, we made real, concrete commitments?
At NUMTECH, we believe that individual actions can truly make a difference — provided they are effective, well-documented, and accessible to everyone.
Here are 6 concrete ways to reduce your carbon footprint and take action for the planet:
1. Learn to better understand the issues
Before taking action, it’s helpful to better understand the environmental challenges we face. Participatory workshops like the Climate Fresk, the Biodiversity Fresk, or the Digital Collage offer a fun and collaborative way to explore these complex issues.
👉 NUMTECH organizes these workshops. Feel free to contact us to set one up!
And to discover local citizen-led initiatives, the platform jeveuxaider.gouv.fr is a great place to start.
2. Rethink your meat consumption
Reducing animal product consumption is a powerful lever for change: according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, livestock farming accounts for 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Incorporating a few vegetarian meals into your weekly routine can make a real difference, while adding culinary variety to your plate.
👉 Did you know? Cutting out meat for just two meals per week can save up to one ton of CO₂-equivalent per year, depending on your starting diet and the type of meat replaced (ADEME, NosGestesClimat).
3. Rethink your clothing habits
The textile industry is one of the most polluting in the world, generating between 4% and 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions and 20% of wastewater pollution (ADEME). Between excessive water use, carbon emissions, and waste, fast fashion comes at a high environmental cost. Buying less, choosing durable or second-hand clothing is a simple way to shift to more sustainable consumption.
👉 Did you know?
- Producing a single t-shirt requires around 2,700 liters of water (Water Footprint Network).
- 60% of clothing items are discarded within a year of purchase (Ellen Macarthur Fundation).
4. Choose local and seasonal products
Opting for locally grown and seasonal food reduces pollution from transportation, limits the need for heated greenhouses or air-freighted imports, and supports local farmers and economies, while respecting natural cycles.
👉 Did you know? An off-season tomato produces 7 times more CO₂-equivalent than one grown in-season (June to September) (Agribalyse).
5. Invest your savings responsibly
It’s often overlooked, but our savings choices have an impact. Some banks finance activities that are incompatible with environmental goals.
👉 Alternatives exist, such as the Sustainable and Solidarity Development Savings Account (LDDS) or ethically driven banking institutions.
6. Use digital technology more sustainably
The digital sector is responsible for 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions (Digital Fresk), with 80% of the impact linked to device manufacturing (GreenIT).
👉 Extending the lifespan of your devices, avoiding large and unnecessary email attachments, compressing files, and decluttering your digital storage are all easy ways to reduce your footprint.
🌍 In Summary
Acting for the planet isn’t about being perfect. It’s about doing what we can, where we are, with what we have. And most importantly, doing it together.
